Beverly Hills Panniculectomy Surgery Performed By Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Calvert.
Panniculectomy is a body contouring surgical procedure that removes hanging fat and skin, typically after massive weight loss.
What is a panniculectomy?
Panniculectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the pannus – excess skin that hangs from the abdominal area, covering genitals and thighs.
In contrast to an abdominoplasty, the abdominal muscle layer is not tightened.
The procedure significantly reduces the appearance of a protruding abdomen.
A panniculectomy may be performed itself or in tandem with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).
While a panniculectomy and a tummy tuck both target the abdomen, they are very different operations.
Abdominoplasty removes fat and tightens the abdominal muscle, while a panniculectomy only gets rid of the pannus.
You may want a panniculectomy if you have:
- Excess skin and fat in the lower abdomen
- Protruding abdomen
- Loose abdominal skin that will not respond to healthy diet and exercise
- Experienced a significant amount of weight loss
- Underwent bariatric surgery and do not want a full abdominoplasty
The Beverly Hills Panniculectomy Surgery Procedure
Panniculectomies patients undergo general anesthesia.
Dr. Calvert removes the pannus through a large incision made from hip bone to hip bone.
The complete procedure can take between two to five hours.
Panniculectomy patients may experience postoperative swelling, bruising and discomfort and will be advised to wear a compression garment while the area heals.
Most panniculectomy patients are back to work within three weeks of the procedure.
Are You a Candidate?
Good candidates for panniculectomy are those who have lost a significant amount of weight and have noticed the presence of excess skin and fat which hangs below their belt-line.
Ideal candidates are those whose weight has remained stable for the past 6 months and who are in good overall health.
