Chin and cheek implants enhance a facial profile by improving the overall proportion and balance of the face.
With chin implants, known as mentoplasty, the symmetry of the face can be shaped and contoured.
Cheek implants, or malarplasty, can add fullness and definition to the face.
You may want a chin and/or cheek implant if you:
- Have a small or recessed chin
- Lack distinction in the jaw, chin, or cheeks
- Desire a more proportional face
- Have hollowed cheeks due to aging
- Desire higher, fuller cheeks
The Procedure
With chin surgery, Dr. Calvert will insert an implant in front of the jawbone to augment the chin or jaw.
A small incision is made inside the mouth (or below the chin) to allow the implant to be positioned in a pocket under the skin.
Chin surgery is commonly performed along with rhinoplasty.
During a cheek augmentation, incisions are made either inside the mouth, through the lower cheek, or directly below the bottom eyelid on the upper part of the cheek.
Cheek surgery is often performed in conjunction with a facelift procedure.
Both chin and cheek implant procedures normally last from 30 minutes to one hour.
