What is a neck lift?
Aging can take a drastic toll on the neck and jowl region.
A neck lift, or platysmaplasty, tightens the underlying muscles of the neck to lift the neck and improve or sharpen the contour of the jawline.
You may want a neck lift if you have:
- A sagging neck and jowl line/li>
- Wrinkling of the neck
- Lost separation between neck and chin
- Experienced significant weight loss
Neck lift surgery
During a traditional neck lift, an incision is made in front of the ear lobe and loops behind the ear ending toward the back of the neck.
To tighten the muscles, there is an additional small incision under the chin.
Dr. Calvert then sews these muscles back together in the center.
It is possible that a small piece of muscle will be removed and some liposuction may be administered on the underside of the deeper layers of the skin.
Incisions are closed and bandaged to suspend and hold the tissues in their new, higher position.
If needed, drains will be placed at this time before bandaging the wounds.
Recovery from a neck lift requires 5-10 days of rest.
A full recovery can be expected several weeks after the procedure.
Neck lifts are sometimes done in conjunction with a traditional facelift, deep plane facelifts, or other surgical procedures.
