Dr. Calvert trained with some of the pioneers of Bariatric Surgery operations during his residency at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Calvert learned about the laparoscopic weight loss operations during his general surgery training and then went on to perform many body lifts and other operations for patients who had excess skin due to massive weight loss. He continues to work closely with Dr. Dennis Hurwitz of the Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery and together, they have established the Hurwitz Center for Body Contouring at the Roxbury Clinic and Surgery Center.

Dr. Calvert believes that the plastic surgeon should be involved in creating the post-operative treatment plan for patients who have undergone bariatric surgery. This complex group of patients needs to be handled quite differently than the general population. Problems associated with skin excess arise fairly routinely and he has the surgical answers for these problems. Post-bariatric body contouring is an art that combines the power of surgical planning with a sense of aesthetic creation. Every patient is different and has a different shape. Customizing the plan for each patient allows Dr. Calvert to create the best possible results for his body lift and body contouring patients.
