What is a photofacial?
Photofacial is a non-surgical facial light-based skin resurfacing treatment used to treat brown spots, broken capillaries and to boost collagen. Using an intense pulsated light (IPL), the skin is pulsed to awake and invigorate cells, giving the face a more youthful appearance.
You may want to consider a photofacial if you suffer from:
- Sun damage
- Age spots
- Redness from broken capillaries
- Large pores
- Aging tissue
- Wrinkles and fine lines
IPL Photofacial is an FDA approved technology that uses short, safe bursts of light emitted from a flash-lamp to treat specific skin conditions. The light beam carefully delivers both the appropriate amount of light and the speed of its delivery to your specific skin condition. The light is absorbed by the pigment in sunspots and the blood in visible vessels, and converted to heat. The heat dissolves the cells that create the pigment and shrinks the vessels.
Most patients describe the feeling as a warming sensation, similar to being in the sun. The treatment takes about 30 minutes and normal activity can resume immediately after the procedure.
